On May 20, 2024, around 10:40 a.m., San Diego police received a report of a robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in the 1000 block of Morena Blvd. A man in his 20s entered a store and picked out some merchandise, then asked the victim if they accepted credits cards.The victim answered that they did and went behind the counter to ring up the sale when the suspect started walking out of the store without making an attempt to pay for the merchandise.
The victim attempted to stop the suspect from leaving when the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened the victim. The suspect then fled the scene. San Diego police officers arrived on the scene and obtained a physical description of the suspect and broadcast that to officers in the surrounding areas.
Officers later spotted the suspect near 5300 Napa St. and tried to detain him. He appeared to have two knives on him and was noncooperative with officers.
The suspect then started walking backwards. SDPD officers deployed a taser, which appeared to have no effect on the suspect.
Officers followed the suspect to a transient encampment in the 5300 block of Friars Road, which is where the suspect took another victim hostage and held a knife to his neck. Three officers fired at the suspect, hitting him at least one time.
Officers immediately began life-saving measures on the suspect until paramedics arrived, but the suspect died at the scene.

Armed Attempted Murder Suspect Shot and Killed By Cops After He Returned to the Scene
On Saturday, May 4, 2024, about 7:45 p.m., Aurora patrol officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Clinton Street after multiple callers reported hearing sounds of gunfire and that a man had sustained a nonfatal gunshot wound to the leg. The suspect, 28-year-old Aurora resident, Jose Luis Rodriguez-Balderrama, left the scene in a red Ford Mustang. Prior to arriving at the scene, officers observed the Mustang in the area and engaged in a brief pursuit, which ended when officers lost sight of the vehicle.
As officers attempted to stop the fleeing suspect, additional officers responded to the original scene. Officers located the victim, a 29-year-old Aurora man, who said Rodriguez-Balderrama arrived at his apartment earlier that evening. Rodriguez-Balderrama was a friend who had been sitting on the victim’s couch with a gun pointed at his own head. The victim told officers he and another resident ran out of the apartment after Rodriguez-Balderrama produced the handgun. The victim said Rodriguez-Balderrama fired several shots at him, striking him in the leg. The other male resident was not injured. A motive for the shooting is not yet known and is part of the ongoing investigation.
While the victim was speaking with officers, several neighbors began yelling that Rodriguez-Balderrama had returned to the scene. Officers quickly located Rodriguez-Balderrama standing near the victim’s apartment, still armed with a handgun. Officers gave Rodriguez-Balderrama commands to show them his hands, at which point officers fired their handguns. Rodriguez-Balderrama was struck multiple times. A 40-caliber handgun was recovered at the scene. Aurora Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and immediately performed lifesaving actions on Rodriguez-Balderrama. Rodriguez-Balderrama was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

On May 10, 2024, Ceres Police responded to a disturbance involving 22-year-old Alexander Yepez-Ortega who was armed with a knife and threatening a family member. Yepez-Ortega fled from the location as police officers arrived on scene. Yepez-Ortega was later located hiding in a vehicle and confronted officers with the knife at which point an officer involved shooting occurred.

LA County Sheriff Cruiser Gets T-Boned
The incident happened Wednesday, May 29, 2024, just before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Newhall Ranch and Bouquet Canyon roads. The L.A. County Sheriff's Santa Clarita Station said the deputy was responding to a burglary.
As he was clearing the intersection, a vehicle with an elderly driver collided with him, causing him to hit a second vehicle.
One person suffered a minor injury in the car involved in the initial crash. The person in the second vehicle hit by the deputy's cruiser refused medical attention.
The deputy was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Pasadena police shoot, kill armed man after pursuit
On April 13, 2024, at 8:39 PM, officers from the Pasadena Police Department contacted an occupied suspicious vehicle on Hudson Avenue near Del Mar Boulevard. The vehicle, a white pick-up truck, was parked facing the wrong way on a one- way street. As officers were conducting their investigation and conversing with the driver, he suddenly sped off. While doing so, the suspect narrowly missed striking an officer with his truck. Now wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, units initiated a short vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed into the front yard of a home located in the 800 block of Arden Road.
The suspect fled from his vehicle and ran into the residential neighborhood. Officers established a containment and organized a search team to conduct yard-to-yard searches. While fleeing, the suspect forcibly entered two occupied residences. With the assistance of the Pasadena Police Department’s airship, officers located the suspect in the rear yard of a property located in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle. A K9 dog was first to contact the suspect, however, the suspect still refused to surrender. As the K9 dog was engaged with the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun.
The suspect refused to comply with orders to drop the handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred. As a result of the shooting, the suspect sustained gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures on the suspect until paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department arrived. Upon arrival, paramedics continued performing life-saving measures and transported the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased. A handgun was recovered from the shooting scene. No officers were injured during the shooting. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Ricardo Guade Andrade, a San Fernando

Video shows Holly Hill police shooting of man 'having a violent episode'
On May 28, 2024, at approximately 1730 hours, Holly Hill police responded to a report of a man armed with a knife threatening to harm or kill others.
The subject's mother reported he was hearing voices instructing him to kill someone, that he was violent, and that he had tried to kill her in the past.
The subject himself called 911 stating his intent to stab and kill someone. Just prior to the arrival of police, screams could be heard in the background of the call.
Upon the initial officer's arrival, the subject, identified as 40-year-old Michael Anthony Edminson (DOB 5/7/1984), refused to drop a knife and charged toward the officer.
The officer backed away and continued commands for Edminson to drop the knife, but Edminson ignored them. The officer fired his weapon multiple times, causing Edminson to fall to the ground, but he maintained control of the knife, stood back up and again began closing ground on the officer. The officer, again backing away, fired multiple times, causing Edminson to fall to the ground, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Bodycam footage of officer firing on domestic violence suspect narrowly missing baby in his arms
On May 19, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., San Diego Police dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from the 400 Block of 47th Street regarding a domestic violence incident. The caller stated her ex-boyfriend, who is the father of her child, entered her apartment, demanded she open her bedroom door, and threatened to shoot her if she didn't comply. Out of fear, the victim opened the door and let 29-year-old Steffon Nutall into the bedroom. Officers were on the way and the dispatcher was still on the line. Nutall picked up the phone and made threats to harm the victim and their 11-month-old Daughter. Nutall grabbed the infant and walked out of the apartment. As San Diego Police officers arrived at the scene, Nutall began to run away with the infant.
Nutall ran south through the 47th Street Trolley Station parking lot with officers in pursuit. Nutall ran to a second apartment complex, followed by multiple officers that began to search the area. Officer Gladysz located Nutall in a wooded area in the northwest corner of the apartment complex. Nutall was lying in a bush on a steep, wooded hill when officer Gladysz spotted him. The officer gave Nutall commands to show his hands multiple times. Nutall pointed an object in the direction of officer Gladysz. Officer Gladysz discharged his service weapon, striking Nutall. The video shows Nutall with an object in his right hand. He was holding the infant under his left arm. Nutall continued down the hillside.
San Diego Police helicopter (ABLE) directed officers to the infant located on the top of a retaining wall. Officers located Nutall lying in front of the retaining wall. Officers approached and secured the infant. With the infant safe, officers detained Nutall and began medical aid until the arrival of paramedics. Nutall was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. He is still recovering. Security camera video shows Nutall dropping the gun in the 47th street trolley station parking lot. The gun came to rest next to a curb. Officer #3 chased Nutall across the trolley station and into the parking lot. Officer #3's bwc captured the firearm on the ground. The pursuing officers did not observe the firearm on the ground. The firearm dropped by Nutall in the Trolley Station parking lot was recovered.

Pedestrian killed in Hollywood crash involving LAPD cruiser
On April 29, 2024, at around 3:50 p.m., a Hollywood Patrol Unit was traveling northbound on Gower Street approaching Santa Monica Boulevard and stopped for a red phased tri-light signal. At which time, the officers activated the vehicle’s emergency lights and proceeded through the intersection when traffic appeared clear. As the officers proceeded northbound through the intersection, a Nissan Altima that was traveling westbound on Santa Monica crashed into right rear of the police vehicle. The crash caused the police vehicle to crash into a pedestrian that was crossing the street in the marked crosswalk. The pedestrian and police vehicle then crashed into a Mercedes Benz that was traveling southbound on Gower Street and stopped for a red phased tri-light signal.
After the crash, officers immediately requested rescue ambulances for the injured parties. Various Rescue Ambulances and personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to assess and treat the injured. The pedestrian sustained significant trauma and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Cop resigns after getting locked in the backseat of police cruiser for over an hour with a woman
Officer Anthony Hair arrested the woman due to a suspected car theft.
On the way to police headquarters, the woman could be heard in the backseat telling Hair that she wanted to have s*x.
Woman: 'Are you single?'
Hair: 'Yeah. But you're not.'
Woman: 'I'm down to f*** right now.'
Hair then pulled down a residential street and turned his car and bodycam off.
After about 20 minutes, Hair called a fellow officer asking if he had a master key to open the back door of his police cruiser because he had locked himself in.
The officer arrived and opened the back door, finding Hair with the woman in the back seat.
Throughout the investigation, Hair claims he was just "checking" on the woman and claimed the door accidentally locked behind him.
The police department however found traces of semen on his belt.
He later resigned.

Bodycam shows man armed with Machete and Knife shot by Greensboro cops
On June 30, 2023, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Greensboro Police officers were dispatched to the area of Creek Ridge Road and Randleman Road in Greensboro, after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding someone armed with a machete and a knife. Officers arrived in the area and encountered Ernesto Ruiz walking with a machete in one hand and a knife in the other. They ordered him to drop the weapons and Ruiz began to flee on foot, not complying with commands. Officers continued to give commands in English and in Spanish, using non-lethal options such as pepper spray, tasers, and foam rounds. Those attempts were ineffective and officers continued to follow Ruiz and issue commands for approximately 1 mile.
Officers realized they were approaching the intersection of Randleman and Creek Ridge roads, an area with several restaurants and convenience stores open to the public. As they approached Family Fare Convenience store and BP gas station at 2600 Randleman Road, multiple officers were in pursuit of Ruiz, who was still armed with the machete and knife. Residents were in the area as officers began to surround and contain Ruiz. Commands were given for him to drop the weapons. Ruiz moved toward officers with the machete raised in one hand in a threatening manner while still armed with a knife in his other hand. Officers Greene and Kirkland and Sgt. Muldowney, who were attempting to surround Ruiz to contain him, discharged their department-issued firearms, striking Ruiz multiple times. Officers handcuffed Ruiz and began life-saving measures. Ruiz was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. On June 30, 2023, Officers Greene and Kirkland and Sgt. Muldowney were placed on administrative duty while the SBI conducted its investigation and while awaiting the District Attorney's decision. On February 26, 2024, the District Attorney determined that the officers' actions were justified by both the common law principles of self-defense and also by the NC General Statute 15A-401 which permits the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer to defend himself or another from what he reasonably believes to be the imminent use of deadly force.

Active Shooter Livestream Himself During Shooting in Fort Wayne Kroger
On 5/23/2024 at 1840 hours, the suspect in the Kroger shooting at 6310 E. State Blvd was apprehended without incident. He was identified as 20-year-old Richard Klaff, Jr. He is currently located at the Allen County Jail. Klaff was preliminarily arrested on three counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon. No one was hurt in the incident and there is no threat to the public. The Fort Wayne Homicide Unit conducted the criminal investigation and was assisted by the Allen County Prosecutors Office. The case is still active and ongoing at this time.

Bicyclist killed during police chase that ended in rollover crash in South Los Angeles
Los Angeles: On April 25, 2024, at 6:18 a.m., Newton Area officers received a radio call for a “Burglary from Motor Vehicle, Suspect There Now” at a gas station located at Gage and Broadway. The suspect was described as a Black male driving a gold Chevrolet Suburban. The previous night’s victim of a Burglary from a Motor Vehicle informed police that she was tracking an electronic device stolen from her vehicle. The officers located the suspect inside a gold suburban parked in front of an apartment building at 48th and Central. The police positioned their vehicle behind the suspect’s vehicle and activated their police lights. The suspect reacted by quickly accelerating away from the police southbound on Central Avenue. The officers chased after the vehicle and broadcasted they were in pursuit of a Burglary from a Motor Vehicle suspect. The pursuit went through several streets until the suspect collided with a male cyclist crossing Hooper Avenue and 46th Street. The force of the collision propelled the cyclist to crash into a parked vehicle. Despite the collision, the suspect continued driving and collided with a parked vehicle and numerous moving vehicles. Eventually, the suspect’s vehicle was stopped after crashing into a telephone pole at Hooper Avenue and 45th Street. The suspect got out of the vehicle and attempted to evade the police by running away a short distance until police apprehended him. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for Felony Evading. The cyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Los Angeles County Coroner responded and identified the victim. During the suspect’s vehicle impound, a bag containing cash, an electronic device, and several identification cards belonging to different people were recovered.
The suspect is identified as Germaine Smith, DOB 02-19-2001, and was booked for 2800.3 (F) Felony Evading, Causing Death; his bail amount was set for $150,000 plus additional warrants for a total of $327,000. The victim is Jose David Monsalve Rojas, DOB 06-23-77, a native of Columbia.

Domestic Violence Suspect Shot by Cops After He Attempted to Retrieve a Gun From His Waistband
On May 5, 2024, Oklahoma City Police officers responded to a domestic call in the 7400 block of NW 106th St. While officers were responding to the call, it was reported the male suspect was shooting a gun. When officers arrived, they came into contact with the armed male, identified as 46-year-old Kenneth Allsen, outside of the residence. Allsen was given verbal commands by the officer but refused to comply. Allsen walked away from the officers and then looked back as he grabbed a gun from his waist. Lt. James Runner discharged his firearm, striking Allsen. Allsen was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other reported injuries.
